Many people today look for good health and longevity through books, fad diets or other quick fixes. Achieving good health is easier than you think.
For most of us, it is never too late to achieve good health. The human body has an incredible capacity to rejuvenate itself. The first step on the road to good health is to decide that you want to be healthy. When should you start? If you are young, remember “The earlier the better”. If you are old, remind yourself “Better late than never”. The important thing is for you to make the first step. Here are seven common sense ways to achieve vibrant health. More Fresh Air and SunshineWe need oxygen to breathe. The rule is: more is better. Strive for good ventilation and natural lighting at home and in the workplace. Spend time outdoors to breathe fresh air and take in sunshine. Your color and your energy level will improve. Plenty of Nutritious Food and WaterWe are what we eat. Also, many of our modern day diseases are traceable to a faulty diet. The rule of thumb for good food is – go natural. As much as possible, stay away from highly processed foods. Minimize your fat, salt and sugar intake. Select foods which would naturally spoil over time. Try to cook your own meals, selecting fresh ingredients. You save money and reap nutrition benefits. Drink plenty of water. Water helps to remove poisons from our body. Regular Exercise and EliminationA regular exercise program, such as vigorous walking, can do a lot of wonders to our physical condition. Exercise will increase our intake of oxygen, improve the efficiency of our heart and lungs and promote better blood circulation. Want to know a great detox therapy? Strive for daily elimination! Eating fiber rich foods will help facilitate daily bowel movements and avoid constipation. Observe Cleanliness and DressCleanliness is next to godliness. Okay if you’re not religious, then remind yourself that the black plague, a natural disaster that claimed a third of Europe’s population in the 14th century, was caused by poor sanitation and hygiene. The dirty surroundings in the towns and cities caused infected rats to proliferate and spread the disease! Keep your person, your dress and your surroundings clean! This will also help you to have a mindset more conducive to productivity and achievement. Adequate Sleep and RestOur bodies need time to rest in order to repair cells and tissues, to restore our energy levels and for general recuperation. Establish your body clock by going to bed at a set time every night. Eight hours of sleep is the usual norm. Brief periods of rest at various times of the day will also invigorate you. Be Safety ConsciousIn 2003, 19,000 Americans died and 1.7 million more were injured in car accidents. Stay awake and alert at home, on the road and in the workplace. Accidents at home take place in the kitchen, usually in the form of burns and cuts. Elderly people suffer from falls. Accidents on the road are due to carelessness, recklessness or drunk driving. Accidents on the job are due to disregard for safety regulations or goofing around in the workplace. To a great extent, all of these mishaps are avoidable. Be safety conscious always and prolong your life! Have a Positive Mental AttitudeNegative thinking produces stress. And stress can foster all sorts of illnesses such as headaches, indigestion, ulcers, nervousness and tension. Remove strife, fear and anxiety. These are unnecessary baggage in your quest for a healthy life. Replace them with a positive, can do spirit. Practice these common sense ways now and help yourself to a healthier and happier life!
