Speaking is an obvious way to communicate with people. However, finding ways to speak without words can sometimes be more effective than a person can ever imagine.

Possessing a command of language while confidently speaking about a particular subject is a way to effectively engage with a particular audience.

A choice of words can lighten or in some cases heighten the intensity of a given moment. People sometimes say what they don’t mean and what appears in direct conflict with what their physical demeanor reveals. The challenge for many people is learning how to effectively speak without words.

Understand the importance of Body Language

Body language is one of the most universal forms of communication languages across the world. If a person walks with their head hanging down it could be an indication of sadness about something. Folded arms could mean someone is feeling uncomfortable about something being said or done.

Let the eyes become the window to the Soul

Eyes are the window to the soul that portrays the happiness, feeling of emptiness or sadness of a person’s thoughts or sentiments about the occasion. A tear drop falling from someone’s eyes is an indication of sadness about something that weighs heavily on someone’s heart. Bags under someone’s eyes are a sign a lack of sleep or relentlessness in a person.

Display visible emotion

Facial expressions are big indicators on how a person feels on a particular day. For example, a raised eyebrow is a first sign of someone becoming upset or highly reactive to a statement someone has made. A person biting their upper lip or turning away from someone could mean they are becoming angry or upset.

Use Sign Language

Sign language is the official language of sign for the deaf. However, if someone is in an environment where language is barrier due to cultural differences sign language can be a successful way to communicate.

Maintain a positive Self Image

First impressions are often made of a person based on image without further consideration of the person’s character. Personal grooming is important not just in terms of impressing others but also in maintaining a positive self image. A confident self image will make a person feel about the person in the mirror and in knowing what to say when it is time to speak.

Human interaction is a part of everyday life that must take place under the friendliest, unpleasant and often the most hostile of situations. People cannot avoid coming into contact with each other at all times.

Sooner or later finding a way to communicate with or words will present itself and knowing effective ways of silently communicating will be useful.

Since I was a child, my face has always shown my emotion before my mouth began to formulate words. I sometimes find it to be a vulnerability that people can read my eyes and my facial expressions. I wish I was better at reading other people's body language. Interesting and enjoyable piece.

Wow, I know that communication is more than verbal but I haven't ever thought about how much of it is based on reading and reacting to the body. Thank you.
