Few people really understand that an orgasm is a movement of energy throughout the body. If they are mindful during orgasm, they can actually begin to discern the movement of that energy in the following ways.
Being Mindful During Orgasm
- Where does the orgasm start in the body?
- Where does the orgasm end in the body?
- How deeply does the orgasm penetrate into the body?
- What kind of sensations are present with the orgasm (water, fire, air like for example)?
Learning to observe and process the above helps individuals understand how the energy flow during orgasm is moving and signals them to do the body work to unlock the channels in the body to open up the flow of orgasm throughout.
Energy Channels and the Chakra System
More people are familiar these days with the mind/body connection and energy system known as the chakras. The word chakra means "wheel" and is a vortex of energy that is said to enter the body from the back and exit out the front of the body. In most systems there are seven major chakras (some have five, others nine and even ten). Each chakra is connected to a nerve plexus in the body, an organ, and a gland. And, every chakra is said to carry within it an emotional, mental, and spiritual state. (Want to know more about the chakras? Tantra and the Chakras
In the system known as tantra, these chakras are opened primarily through visualizing the energy flowing up the body through each of the chakra points. Partners can also visualize their chakras connecting together as they stream their energy towards each other and create a circuit of energy between their chakras. This is well and good, but the "petals" of the chakras are rarely fully opened in this way. (Chakras are often symbolized as flowers with many petals ranging typically from four to one-thousand). For example, just breathing into the heart chakra with it's corresponding state of deep love and positive regard for oneself and others is rarely sufficient enough to create these states (though when the heart chakra is penetrated through breath work and visualization issues regarding the lack of love, or feelings of love, may emerge, something partners need to be ready for). That's why ecstatic sex has the capacity to take it even further because it recognizes that chakras can be opened in many ways, even by people who have never heard of the chakras or done any form of imagery or breath work in their relationships at all.
Ecstatic Sex and the Chakras
In ecstatic sex, though breath work and visualization may be used, other methods tend to be emphasized more. Before exploring these in future articles it can be said here that when a couple has opened up the energy centers of the chakras the following qualities will be present in their relationship at all times.
- First Chakra -- At root of spine. Qualities of safety, security, stability, commitment. Conveys right to exist and live.
- Second Chakra -- Below navel. Qualities of pleasure, attraction, desire, emotion. Conveys right to feel and to want.
- Third Chakra -- Above navel. Qualities of self-esteem, power, will. Conveys right to act and to move something forward.
- Fourth Chakra -- Chest area. Qualities of love, balance, compassion, acceptance. Conveys right to love and be loved.
- Fifth Chakra -- Throat area. Qualities of communication, truth, honesty. Conveys right to speak and be heard.
- Sixth Chakra -- Forehead area. Qualities of clarity, discernment, accuracy. Conveys right to see reality.
- Seventh Chakra -- Top of head. Qualities of being, presence, wisdom. Conveys right to know essential spiritual being in self and others.
As might be apparent from the list above breathing in the first chakra won't necessarily create a state of stability and commitment between partners. And, learning to see each other clearly, accept each other lovingly, and speak to each other in a compassionate way won't always happen through just visualizing these to be so. Therefore, to truly open these energy centers as a couple, the couple needs to be open to working on themselves at spiritual and psychological levels, not just energetic ones (something this series will share more on as links to each chakra emerge on this article in weeks to come).
